First Church of the Steady Boat

First Church of the Steady Boat

For we must not rock the boat of the church, lest our money become dry. Tickle their ears and humor them, lest thou be offended. For it is written, haters are despised and scorned.

The Department of Subterfuge

The Department of Subterfuge

Maybe if we could merge several leaders and their duties into one official set, you know, similar to how this Homeland Security was put together? And we could simply call it as it actually is. The Department of Subterfuge. Combine the City and County officials, and we’ll have one big tent of leadership that would be much easier to keep an eye on,

So you want to talk about what’s fair?

So you want to talk about what’s fair?

It seems the rhetoric in the upcoming election, the present administration claims that things aren’t fair for everyone, and it would have the well off paying more taxes, well, because, it’s only fair.  Well, let’s talk about some more things that aren’t fair.

When I’m 64

When I’m 64

Remember that old song? That was one of the tunes that appeared on the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper album, back on June 1, 1967. Many a teenager like me at the time, graduated from being a foolish adolescent to a foolish and easily impressionable young adult to be. Yea, back then, 30 was old, 40 was ancient, and everyone above that was old fashioned. I was a part of a care-free generation as well as an if it feels good, do it, driven culture. Back then, there was no such thing as just say no, because our bunch was known to live out the slogan of just say when.

State of the Union

State of the Union

Believe it or not, most folks aren’t really concerned about free birth control, hoodies, this incredulous lie regarding war on women, along with whether women will be admitted into the County Club that hosts the Masters.

We’ve fallen a long way, baby

We’ve fallen a long way, baby

For those of us who are old enough to remember the 60’s, the late 60’s to be exact, when the USA put a man on the moon, those were days to remember.  Why?  Well, today, our government agencies can’t even get us to WalMart without an act of congress or worse.  Forget a trip to the moon.  We’ve been regulated into a corner and there’s nowhere to turn.  These days, the government and the sheeple act as if we can’t go to the bathroom without playing May I with Uncle Sam.  And we seemingly don’t have enough sense to feed ourselves, because the same Uncle feels that the powers that be need to teach us lesser beings a thing or two about nutrition, as they munch on their triple cheese burgers, an extra large order of fries, a side order of onion rings, and a Diet coke.  Thank God for good government, right?

A lesson confirmed but painful to realize

A lesson confirmed but painful to realize

I have been perplexed by the sudden death of Conservative activist, Andrew Breitbart, at the tender age of 43. Natural causes, they say. I say, what’s natural about dying at 43 when one appears to be healthy? In Breitbart’s passing, I have read many nasty, insulting comments by his opponents, just as I’ve read some respectable, supportive comments towards the man and his family, from all his friends, and even a few foes. But the opponents nastiness is just a confirmation that Andrew Breitbart has been and is still correct, even in death, about those opponents and what they believe and how they behave.

Freedom from religion

Freedom from religion

I have been reading with interest, the stories regarding several city and county governments that have reacted to the threat of praying at certain meetings. Most think and also claim publicly that they don’t think anyone would complain locally. The reason this is of interest to me is the fact that I moved from here in August, 2010, to a small town in southern Spartanburg County, SC. and the City Council there faced a challenge by someone locally who was fronted by the Freedom From Religion Foundation. This Godless entity resides in Madison, WS and is nothing more than a mother-daughter team of busy-bodies who appear to hate all things Christian.

Encumbering the unaffiliated

Encumbering the unaffiliated

I have a question for our State legislators who represent Cleveland County. When are you going to change the election laws so that Unaffiliated voters can run as equals to those who show loyalty to a certain party? Why must an Unaffiliated person have to gather 4% of the registered voters signatures in order to get on a ballot? Yet, when Judges are up for election, it is called a non-partisan race, and no parties are mentioned? Why? Are judges supposed to be better than regular people?

The writing on the wall

The writing on the wall

Unfortunately, we have no King Solomon to lean on here that we may rely on his infinite wisdom.  All we have to guide us is what we read in the newspaper, when it comes to all matters locally.
